Mike is president of Morgan & Claypool and the publisher of several computer science series including artificial intelligence and machine learning, semantic web, human language technologies, computer architecture, computer graphics and others. Before cofounding M&C he was president and founder of Morgan Kaufmann Publishers and VP of book publishing at Academic Press. He started his career as a computer science publisher at Addison-Wesley. Mike also currently serves on the boards of directors of two not for profit publishing organizations, the University of California Press and Small Press Distribution, a distributor of poetry and alternative fiction books. He lives in Northern California with his wife, Debra Hunter, former president of Jossey-Bass Publishers and VP at Wiley Publishing, and their two children, two dogs and a cat.

Joel has been in book publishing for more than 30 years, most recently with Academic Press/Elsevier Science. Joel's career includes founding the development, acquisition and publication of the highly successful CRC Press engineering handbook and book program. He co-founded Morgan & Claypool in 2002. Diane has been publishing computer and information science text and reference books for her entire career. Before joining Morgan & Claypool in 2007, she was editor and publisher at Morgan Kaufmann (now an imprint of Elsevier), at John Wiley & Sons, and, earlier still, was an engineering text and reference book editor at McGraw Hill. After 30+ years of long commutes, she can now be found in her home office in Florida; when she is not attending and exhibiting at numerous research conferences worldwide. At home she cooks and bakes for friends and neighbors, walks the beach, and maxes out her e-book reserve list at her local county library. Her husband doesn't actually mind that her authors sometimes join them for vacations.

Prior to joining M&C, Joe worked at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), administrating Clinical & Translational Research programs for its membership of 30,000+ basic research scientists. Prior to that, he worked in medical communications consulting, doing strategic publications planning for biotech and pharmaceutical clients at Excerpta Medica (an Elsevier company). Joe studied philosophy and political theory at Princeton University and wrote his independent work on Plato and Aristotle. He was saber squad captain of the Men's Varsity Fencing team and sang bass in the University Chapel Choir. Joe enjoys traveling and playing/watching tennis and soccer. Paul has been in book publishing for 27 years. Before joining Morgan & Claypool in 2016, he was a Senior Editor at John Wiley and Sons for 11 years developing reference and advanced textbooks in mechanical, electrical and computer engineering. As an Executive Editor for five years at Prentice Hall PTR/Addison Wesley Professional, Paul developed textbooks and professional publications covering software engineering, programming, and agile software development. Prior to that he developed reference publications focused on life and medical sciences at CRC Press and Humana Press. He lives in Florida with his family.

Susanne joined Morgan & Claypool in 2017 with a focus on acquiring for the IOP Concise Physics program. Active in publishing for 16 years, she was most recently a Senior Editor at John Wiley & Sons where she commissioned and developed award-winning textbooks, references, handbooks, and major reference works in mathematics, statistics, analytics, operations research, and mathematical physics. In addition, Susanne has a demonstrated history in utilizing technologies such as digital delivery; online platforms; and audio, video, and interactive functionality to realize the author’s vision for their work as well as improve both the product and user experience. She is a native of New Jersey where she lives with her family and menagerie of pets.
Samantha Draper (Editorial Assistant)
Samantha has been interested in publishing ever since she worked at the Writers' Center at Colby College, helping students improve their writing skills. She studied English and Environmental Studies at Colby, and also studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. Samantha is a vegetarian, loves animals (especially dogs) and is an avid reader of fiction. Some of her favorite authors are Haruki Murakami, Virginia Woolf and Sylvia Plath. She hails from Chicago, Illinois, and is slowly getting used to the beautiful California weather.

Brent Beckley (Direct Marketing Manager)

Brent has been marketing and selling STEM books for over 15 years with multiple publishers including Cornell University Food and Nutrition Program, William Andrew and Knovel Corporation (now Elsevier), SciTech Publishing, and the Institution of Engineering & Technology. He specializes in electronic and print marketing including community building. He is the President of the local Youth Baseball & Softball league where he also coaches, and is a die-hard fan of those Damned Yankees.
Matt Wong (Colloquium Institutional Sales)
Matt Wong has been the Colloquium Sales Specialist at Morgan Claypool since 2014. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, he studied Music at Princeton University, where he played upright bass in the Univeristy Jazz Ensemble. Matt was also a three-year starter on the Men's Rugby team. In addition to being a Colloquium Sales specialist by day, at night Matt is a professional musician and studio producer. He is currently the touring bass guitarist with the indie-rock group Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah (CYHSY), and has also co-written and produced songs for Grammy-nominated recording artist Jazmine Sullivan.
Linda Weiss (Synthesis Institutional Sales)
Linda is a Sales Specialist with Morgan & Claypool. Linda has spent her career in publishing, beginning as a sales rep with Macmillan in the College Division, after which she moved into management and then moved onto Pearson's Higher Ed division. She is happy to have an opportunity to now work with Librarians, selling digital content. Linda is an avid reader, being involved with several book clubs and also volunteers in the community.
Pamela Hopper (Synthesis Institutional Sales)
Pamela brings a diverse background of publishing sales, sales management and business ownership to Morgan & Claypool Publishing. Her previous experience working for Benjamin Cummings (division of Addison Wesley), CRC Press, and Pearson's Higher Education division has culminated to bring Morgan & Claypool's original, digital content to Librarians in North America as a Synthesis Sales Specialist. With a love of all things creative, Pamela spends her spare time decorating, gardening, and antiquing. She is pictured here with her toy poodle, Sweet Pea.
David Schlangen (Sales & Marketing Operations Manager)
David Schlangen has been with the Morgan & Claypool Sales and Marketing team since 2012. He entered the publishing industry after five years in commercial printing and eight years in the US Army, where he worked in Military Intelligence and studied the Korean language. He is a graduate of the University of Washington, with a major in International Studies. In his spare time, he is either exploring the outdoors - backpacking, kayaking, biking - or experimenting in his home art studio.

Sue Beckley has been with the Morgan & Claypool Marketing and Sales team since 2016. She has a diverse background of experience in creative art and design and is excited to be in the STEM publishing industry.
